Bloody Gears - Selftitled 7" [2010]

I've read a MRR review for this one and there is written that songs from this 7" sound so much like Wipers lost demos. Well, maybe vocals do remind of Greg Sage a lot, but i hear so much more while spinning this piece of plastic. This band has the sound of their own besides taking the hints from such as Leatherface, Husker Du, Moving Targets or Wipers and they even thrown some midwestern sound into their music. All three songs are pretty decent dark melodic anthems. Besides this single, Bloody Gears put out demo last year and you can get it for free from their blogspot here.

Buy 7" via Deranged.
European press is out on Taken by Surprise.

White Pages - White Pages [2010]

White Pages are a three piece band from Cambridge, Massachusetts and they bring us their first self-released demo tape. It's fast, raw and dirty garage punk. Playing it on repeat for the last hour or so and digging it a lot!

The tape is available for purchase via the COMPLAIN COMPLAIN distro. Buy it HERE.

There's also a recording of their show at WHRB radio available for free download on their BANDCAMP PAGE. Check it out HERE!

Brainbombs - Obey [1995]

A pure misanthropic gem of an album. Loud, dirty, mindless noise rock. One of Sweden's best and one of my favorite bands of all time. For fans of RUSTED SHUT, DRUNKDRIVER, CLOCKCLEANER, FLIPPER and bands like that.

First release on RELEASING ESKIMO, repressed by ARMAGEDDON RECORDS.

Matt K. Shrugg - Gone Ashtray [2010]

Hi all! It's been a while since something new was posted here. Sorry for that. College sucks. Anyway, here's some great music I've been listening through this long, traumatic period.

This is an awesome record by Matt K. Shrugg. His first solo full length, released on TIC TAC TOTALLY RECORDS. Before his solo stuff he played in THE PIZZAS and ZODIAC KILLERS, which are both awesome bands and I'ill probably post some of their music, too. Enjoy!

Out on cassette, too, by SOUTHPAW RECORDS.

You can buy the album HERE and HERE.

Boston Chinks - Coltrane 7'' [2007]

BOSTON CHINKS were great and I love this record. They played one of my all time favorite shows here in Zagreb when they toured with Jay Reatard. They don't play under the BOSTON CHINKS name anymore and now they're called THE BARBARAS. That's a great band too.

Lets Grow & Jaibo! split LP [2010]

I wrote about Jaibo! and Lets Grow in my previous posts so i won't bother you with my words that much. I'll just copy\paste Sorry State and Maximum Rocknroll reviews and leave you the download link for the complete split 12":

Maximum Rocknroll review:
"I had sort of a weird mix up of expectations when listening to this new split of two Belgrade hardcore bands. I started off with the one I'm already familiar with, Lets Grow, and I was expecting some run-of-the-mill thrash-core since some stuff I've heard in the past didn't really floor me or anything. But then I raised an eyebrow and was like "Hold on...these new tracks are pretty freakin' killer"! These dudes capture the '84 fast-to-mid-paced sound just right, and the singer's voice is raspy but not over the top, swallowing nails shit. Man, I want to revisit some of the older stuff now 'cause maybe I wasn't in the right mood the first time around. The flipside belongs to Jaibo!, who I haven't heard before, but had high expectations for as I had seen other reviews comparing them to Jerry's Kids and Bad Brains! Those are two points of reference that should not be thrown around lightly. There are some similarities I suppose, as some tracks do sound like stuff from the Kill Kill Kill-era Jerry's Kids and the spastic and manic vocals mixed with high-speed guitar noodling does bring to mind a little Rock For Light; but they have their own thing going on even more. So even thought my initial anticipation was blown, I ended up listening to the whole side a second time, without any preconceived notions, and started to totally dig it. And then I flipped it over to hear Lets Grow again. Both bands tear it up!"

Sorry State review:
"Brand new split 12" from these two ripping European bands, both of who work vaguely in the tradition of bands like RKL and maybe even Animosity-era COC... in other words, this is no-bullshit HC that's not afraid to bring in rock or metal influences, but is never less than raging. Serbia's Let's Grow play mean-as-fuck, herky-jerky HC that definitely reminds me of the two aforementioned 80's bands, but with that extra passion that eastern European bands always seem to muster. As for their countrymen in Jaibo!, they work in a similar vein, playing aggressive but technical HC that recalls Rock for Light-era Bad Brains. Killer stuff!"

I still have 20 copies of split left so you can write me here for ordering infos. If you're from the States you can get your copy directly from Sorry State Records and Grave Mistake Records. And yeah, if you're interested in who did the awesome cover art for the record, it's a work of Ray Ahn from Hard-Ons.

Vom - Live At Surf City 7'' [1978]

Vom (short for Vomit) members Greg Turner and Mike Saunders formed Angry Samoans after Vom call it quits. This is Vom only proper release and was out on White Noise Records in 1978. The repress came out on Kryptonite Records in 2001. Expect five out of tune degenerated live gems from this pre Angry Samoans band. This single is a must hear record if you're into Samoans or shitty punk rock bands with snotty attitude.

Rusted Shut - Rehab [2004]

This is pretty much all I listened to when a week ago my hard disk died and since most of my digital music library got fucked up this gets it's deserved place on the blog. RUSTED SHUT formed in 1986 in Texas and they play angry and vile noise rock in the vein of BRAINBOMBS, DRUNKS WITH GUNS, PACHINKO, STICK MEN WITH RAY GUNS and all those great, nasty bands that were on AMREP in the late 80s and early 90s. And it sounds great. It's pure, slow, pulsating FILTH. If you're a fan of any of the mentioned bands this is a must have.

REHAB is RUSTED SHUT's first proper release out on EMPEROR JONES RECORDS in 2004. You can buy it HERE.

Spider - Spider LP [2008]

Spider are Erin from The Spits and his girlfriend. The Lp includes songs from the HoZac 7inch and some unreleased ones also. This is some pretty neat minimalistic punk. Sounds like Spits would if they'd go full experimental while listening to a Devo all time during the recording process. This was self-released by the band.

The Spits - Returning To Their Hometown LP [2006]

Can't get enough of The Spits. Second in The Spits Live vinyl series out on Thriftstore Records. This was recorded on January 6th at Kraftbrau Brewery, Kalamazoo, Michigan. I couldn't find this anywhere since is out of print a long time ago and was probably available in some silly quantities. Thanx to Broose Young for sending us Returning To Their Hometown LP in digital format.

Chinese Telephones & Potential Johns Split 12" [2006]

Potentional Johns is Jeff of The Marked Men solo. His side sounds pretty much like The Marked Men and Hight Tension Wires (also a Marked Men project) but this is much more lo-fi. It's pretty rad like the other side on which Chinese Telephones are rockin' some solid pop-punk in vein of Pegboy, Jawbreaker, Screaching Weasel and i would dare to say i heard some Replacements in their gems. This was out on Pizza Pizza Records and Cheeky Git Records. Can't find any more info on that but i suppose the record is sold out a long time ago.

NEEDLES//PINS - First World Problems [2010]

Another record i've been listening to a lot for the last couple of weeks now is the FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS EP from Vancouver's NEEDLES//PINS. I don't know much about the band other than that they're a three piece and they can write some of the catchiest pop songs i heard in a while. So, yes, this is another perfect record to listen to this summer :D. Laid back, upbeat and fresh garage pop you can sing your hearts out to. This was released on CS on NO REVOLUTION RECORDS. Debut LP from Vancouver's VAPID, out last year on NOMINAL and DERANGED RECORDS, brings us thirteen songs of nervous, spiteful but catchy punk rock. Aside from all the great slower, catchier songs there's a couple of raging fast ones, BRUISES being my favorite. I just love the way she screams I LIKE TO PARTY! :D A great record!

Southside Stranglers - Strangle You 7'' [2010]

Second single from the best new band from the States. Kenny and Brandon from Government Warning are on vocals and guitar but Southside Stranglers are more into garage punk than GW. Even if the 80's american hardcore influences are present (Bad Brains, RKL, Dicks) SS really drawn influences from bands such as Pagans, Crime or Stooges. A-Side (Strangle You) really reminds me of some later Annihilation Time stuff while the B-Side (Daddy's Little Nightmare) is more faster and frantic. Sounds like Bad Brains would if they tried to cover Stooges as fast they could do it in the 80's. This is with no doubt the best hardcore punk band i've heard in last few years and I can't wait to hear songs from their first (rumored) LP. Get the demo tape here if you haven't heard it yet cause it's also a total ripper. SS demo tape was later reissued on Grave Mistake as Too Much TV 7".

BANxTHIS! - How To Destroy A Quiet Sleep? [2008]

Final record from Bologna skate punk thrashers is total killer. They continue to rip with their retro 80's style in vein of Adolescents, Bad Brains, RKL with a touch of classic italian hardcore such as Indigesti or even german Jingo De Lunch. This is modern hardcore classic. 7inch was released on both Agipunk and Don't Need Records.

Lovro posted BanxThis full length here recently. And if you like BanxThis (seriously, i don't understand how could you not dig this band?) you must know that BanxThis members continued to play in incredible ED. I posted their records and wrote about them here and here.

Total Control – “Retiree” b/w “Meds II” 7" [2009]

Who are Total Control you can read in my previous post. This is their second single and is out on Iron Lung Records. Minimalistic Retiree is the best song i've heard from this fellas and this one really reminds me of Liars but with more trashy sound and of course even more synths. Meds II got industrial vibe and is more experimental but the drug fried vocals are doing the job pretty well. Great shit.

Total Control - Total Control 7'' [2008]

Total Control are Mickey from Eddy Current Supression Ring and DX from UV Race\Straightjacket Nation and with this project they deliver you their vision of synth driven punk. If you're into Screamers, Units, Nervous Gender and some new bands such as Digital Leather and early Liars records you should like this 7 inch. Besides three of their own gems for this record they've recorded their version of Swell Maps' Full Moon. This was out on aussie label Aarght! Records and is sold out.

Top Surprise - Everything Must Go [2010]

Brazil's TOP SURPRISE play loud, messy, reverebed, noisy garage pop [shitgaze?] but unlike so many bands that play this kind of muisc they are actually pretty interesting. EVERYTHING MUST GO is their first official release on PUG RECORDS. The EP is seven songs long and is a great mix of straight forward pop tunes, epic solos, psyched out jams and acoustic folk tunes. Highly enjoyable and recommended.

Mess Folk - This is Mess Folk CS [2009]

I am really late with posting this because I had trouble with ripping the tape on my stereo and it sounds pretty harsh but here it finally is. Mess Folk are a Sydney Nova Scotia, Canada based band and they play weird, vile, noisy and messed up psychedelic garage punk. Brilliant garage punk that is. The sound is really raw [and my shitty stereo didn't help it either] but the songs are so awesome that it doesn't really matter. I love how sinister it sounds and there's a bunch of tracks that are catchy as hell. The tape was released on SCOTCH TAPE RECORDS and three of the songs from the album were released as a 7'' on HOZAC RECORDS.

The album will be re-released as an LP later this year on BACHELOR RECORDS with 10 additional unreleased songs.

Lets Grow & Jaibo! songs from Powder Keg Comp., upcoming split LP

Lets Grow & Jaibo!

When it comes to Jaibo! it's all about rock n' roll inspired hardcore punk. Jaibo!'s music can be compared to Bad Brains, Jerry's Kids, RKL (R'n'r Nightmare era) and some european bands such as Indigesti and Jingo De Lunch. They have 3 songs on "Powder Keg" compilation and 8 tracks will be out on split LP with Lets Grow. You can read more about Lets Grow in my previous post.

Lets Grow - Disease Of Modern Times LP [2007/2009]

Lets Grow exist since 2001. and so far they have a lot of records out on US and European labels. They already toured Europe once and played with bands like Annihilation Time, Vitamin X, Dean Dirg, Out Cold etc. and as we speak they are touring Europe again (see their myspace for exact dates and venues). In those 8 years their music changed a bit, but it was always no bullshit, great sounding and high-energy fast hardcore punk inspired mostly by the 80's US bands.

Both cd and lp version of "Disease of modern times" was out on Refuse Rec. and TrashBastard Rec. I think these first LP presses are sold out but you can definetely get yourself a vinly repress which is out on american label Know Rec. Or, you can always write to above mentioned labels for more details about first vinyl presses and cd's. Also, there is a new split LP record with Jaibo! out on Doomtown Rec. and i'll post some more info on that in my second blog entry.

Degraders - Pyschedelic Friends [2009]

Functional Blackouts - The Very Best of the Monkees [2007]

These Chicago punks delivered some loud, noisy, treble heavy and filthy guitar nihilism. The band broke up in 2006 and later went on to form incredible Daily Void with a new drummer. This compilation compiles eighteen tracks from their earliest recordings to their final outputs; singles and compilation appearances, cuts from their splits with Fashion Fashion and The Image Boys as well as the songs from the split with the KK Rampage as well as three unreleased tracks. This is one of the most brilliant bands i have heard in a long time. Even if this is Indigesti's reunion album it's pretty rad. Unlike Indigesti's older realeses which have pretty raw sound, sound production here is much better than one on the previous releases so the vocals and melodies are coming more to the foreground and are more notable. A must have.
