Goodnight Loving - Nothing Conquers Us 7" [2009]

Country influenced, Wisconsin's Goodnight Loving cleverly manage to mix fuzzy power pop tunes with southern americana sounds and outcome of their effort is incredible. Before this new 7 inch record they've released  three full length records and a bunch of singles which are all great and soon i'll post some more stuff from these fellas.

Out on Dirtnap. Get it here.

Tokyo Electron - AZ 238 LP [2009]

Released on both FDH and Certified PR records, AZ 238 features ten tracks recorded back in 2007/2008 and this record is probably their last release (probably cuz Ryan Wong started Earthmen And Strangers and Tokyo Electron's drummer moved away). I like AZ 238 much more than Tokyo Electron's previous releases. Songs on this one are more textured, defined and i dig that psychedelic desert vibe this album brings. Also, you should listen to Ryan's band Earthmen And Strangers i mentioned before. Lovro posted their s\t record here.

Women - Women 7'' [2008]

Not to be mistaken with the shoegazy pop band of the same name from Canada this Philadelphia group plays trashy hardcore in the vein of DEAN DIRG and HENRY FIAT'S OPEN SORE. This is their first release on FDH RECORDS. Six dirty, fast and furious songs in just over ten minutes. Awesome record.

The band is currently finishing their first full length. Again on FDH RECORDS.

Freestone - Church\Bummer Bitch 7" [1978]

Freestone were bunch of LA hippies mocking punk rock movement from the late seventies and they recorded Bummer Bitch\Church as a joke. Freestone member Billy DeMoya explained all that here. While Bummer Bitch is one the best songs in that kbd style of shitty, sloppy and dumb punk rock, Church is pretty much just one long, undefined and boring song. Bummer Bitch appeared on the second in the series of Killed by Death compilations and is one of the most collectable punk 45s around.

"Bummer Bitch you make me sick, Bummer Bitch suck my dick"

Hitler SS & Tampax Split 7" [1978]

Loud and snotty italian kbd punk. This is one of the best early punk singles came out from the land of Italy. This is Hitler SS's only proper release ever while Tampax's first in their small amount of releases. Hitler SS really reminded me of early Buzzcocks and Dead Boys while Tampax are pretty much less melodic. Both bands appeared on classic Killed by Death compilations.

Chronick Sick - Cutest Band In Hardcore 12" [1982]

I doubt these guys were racist at all but they wrote some lyrics that caused some confusion ("Here Goes The Neighborhood"). Just like Angry Samoans, Lewd, Fuck Ups and Teenage Depression they wanted to provoke everybody so they put swastikas on their faces and make some sexist references in their lyrics but as i see it, all that was for the sake of shock values and with bunch of irony but who would really know? On this record Chronick Sick are more into exploring melodic side of punk rock then into american hardcore and i really like what they are doing here. Great record! And yeah, you can see some cool 12 inch inserts here at kbdrecords blog.

Sick Mormons - Why Does Shit Keep Falling From the Sky? [2009]

Now this is just awesome. The first EP by this Amsterdam band was all killer no filler and this one continues in the same way. Four perfect hardcore anthems for screwed up girls and boys. Sick Mormons are along with BRAT PACK one of my favourite "new" hardcore bands and I finally got my copy of the 7'' on a GEWAPEND BETON gig here in Zagreb a few weeks ago. They sound like all the best early so-cal bands [especially THE ADOLESCENTS] and are just as good. The songs have a darker vibe than the ones on the first EP but they sure don't lack the melody or the catchiness.

The EP is co-released by GUMMOPUNX and DEMONMANIA RECORDS. Get it from them.

Jay Reatard RIP

Jay passed away yesterday in his sleep at the age of 29. He was one of the most talented, sincere and dedicate artists in last decade. To me and probably to a lot of you guys his music ment much. Jay recorded 22 albums with his bands and projects and all over 100 releases in total and all that in just ten years. I was really into all of his stuff and especially Reatards and Lost Sounds. Watched Lost Sounds somewhere in 2004 and that was one of the most aggressive and dynamic shows i have ever seen. Still can't bealive this is for real. Reatard, you died too young, way too young. Rest in peace man. You will not be forgotten!!!

Here's the official statement from Jays's blog. You can also download unrelased cover of Nirvana's Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle there.

The Spits - Pain 7" [2009]

The latest addition in Spits discography is amazing 7" record out on Slovenly. With no doubt i can say this one rivals their incredicle 19 Million A.C. EP single. On this one they even covered Pain's "I Hate Pain" from the classic punk rock "Battle Of The Bands" episode of C.H.i.P.s! You can watch that C.H.I.P.s! episode on youtube. See here.

You should get this one before is to late.

The Welcomin' Committee in Flames - The Welcomin' Committee in Flames [2007]

The Welcomin' Committee in Flames are a girl fronted trash'n'roll Zagreb/Tokyo combo. One of the greatest live bands i've seen. This is their demo release and it rips from start to finish. Dodo [ex THE BABIES (the real THE BABIES not the new band), EICHMANN FAMILY] on guitar and vox, Kazuko - vox and Mr. Drumsonic on drums.

Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands - Yours Truly [2010]

It's 2010 and Waylon Thornton is back! The eerie vibe of the previous release is still here and the songs rule just as much. 14 new trashy songs of evil, primitive rockabilly greatness! Out soon on their own WHITE MOON RECORDINGS. On cassette. <3

State Champion - Stale Champagne [2010]

State Champion are Ryan, Aaron, Mikie, Sabrina and Lindsay and Stale Champange is, for me, the perfect record to start the new year with. Sincere, lo-fi garage-country that rocks from start to finish. It kicks of with "Thanks Given", a song I liked so much it took me forever to get past it to listen to the rest of the record. But it's a good thing I eventualy did, cause the rest is just as great. Songs like "Bite the Dust", "The Years" and especially "The World Don't Need Me Around Much Anymore" make this an instant favourite for 2010.

The record is out on January 26th on SOPHMORE LOUNGE RECORDS so get your copy as soon as possible!

State Champion are playing lots of dates all through january and february so check their MYSPACE page to catch them live.

Manual Zombie - Autumn [2009]

Manual Zombie are a duo from Brooklyn, NY. They play lo-fi psychedelic noise rock with lots of reverb, loops and samples. It kind of reminds me of Factums but the sounds are not that weird. It's dark, sinister and fuzzed out. JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT. Recomended.

Miss Chain and the Broken Heels

Miss Chain and the Broken Heels are a girl fronted power pop band from Italy. They released a few records in the past couple of years and they all rock in just the right way. If you like Nikki and the Corvettes and The Shivvers you have to get this.

Their first 7'' [a four song EP] was out on SONIC JETT and RIJAPOV RECORDS. Nice sounds through and through. Unfortunately [for us who don't have it, not for the band :D] the record is sold out.

MF

Boys and Girls 7'' was out on DREAM ON RECORDS in 2008. The two songs on it are a bit more up beat than the ones on the debut release but are just as awesome. This 7'' is also, sold out.

MF

The last release was the Lie 7'' on SHAKE YOUR ASS RECORDS. This is my favourite record by the band cause the title track is just the best power pop ballad ever [:D], and the b side is just as good. The 7'' is still available so get it from HERE.

M's 2009 lists

And finally, here are my lists!

TOP ALBUMS:

Dinosaur Jr. - Farm

- Mascis, Lou & Murph once again bring you the perfect blend of indie rock. Incredible record!

Zero Boys - History of
- Zero Boys influenced all of your favorite bands from Atlanta and that is for a reason. This reissued LP have some tapes never before released on vinyl + songs from some splits and singles.  If you're into their Vicious Circle record you should like this.

Digital Leather - Warm Brother
- Fuzzy & warm synth pop brilliance from everyone's favorite fag Shawn Foree (who's now got a real band).

The Spits - Vol. 4
- The Spits are probably the best band ever. You must worship them for their reatarded vision of Ramones\Misfits influenced sloppy punk rock. Unlike all those Ramones influenced bands Spits have synths and they like Devo. New LP and Pain 7" are total fuckin' killers.

Cloak\Dagger - Lost Art
- I was really into We Are LP but i like this new record as much.

Night Fever - New Blood
- Rock n roll influenced hardcore punk straight outta K-town, Denmark. Salomon brings you incredible vocals on these 9 tracks.

Purple Mercy - Selftitled
- If you're into drugs, pills, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Black Sabbath and Network The Movie you should give a try to these guys.

Mean Jeans - Are You Serious?
- Like The Spits, Mean Jeans are one of those rare bands who worship Ramones and dont suck.

Future Of The Left - Travels With Myself And Another
- These guys from mclusky can't record a shitty song.

Burial - Speed At Night
- German hardcore punks who sound just like their japanese influences.

Obits - I Blame You
- Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu) and John Reis (Rocket from the Crypt) team up to record this great record. Sounds like more rock n roll influenced Hot Snakes.

Ty Segall - Lemons
- This guy's been recording even more than a Jay Reatard. On this LP Ty delivers you an incredible mix of surf rock & garage punk.
