Condominium - Barricade 7" [2009]
from FASHIONABLE IDIOTS
"This is the third 7” from St. Paul, MN-based band Condominium. With this record, they are clearly figuring out what musical boundaries they can poke and prod while remaining firmly rooted in the world of hardcore. On the A-side, “Barricade” wallows in the kind of awkward tension that results from never wanting to leave your house. It alternates between crushing two step hardcore and wild, jangly noise rock played in non-standard tuning. The B-side is a slower instrumental song. A sparse, laid back jam that brings to mind Black Flag and The Jesus Lizard in its winding, ugly guitar riffs, and lurching rhythms."

Sedatives - Selftitled 7" [2008]
from TERMINAL BOREDOM
"Punk rock from Canada's capital city, where there seems to be a bit of rock activity as of late. They need the excitement, because the Sens fucking blow. This reminds me of post-'Black Album' Damned a little bit, lots of organ grinding married to faster and darker tempos and some hidden goth moves. Very emotive and anthemic, a little bit poppy, some would call this Wipers-influenced as well, but only in its down-n-out vibe. Sounds Canadian to me somewhow, like a less annoying and punkier Tranzmitors or Statues. Fans of The Estranged and their like would do well with this."

GG King - Adult Rock 7'' [2009]
from DOUCHEMASTER:
If the brow raising title of this record has you concerned that Greg Carbona and D~M~R have lost their collective minds and released a rap record, rest assured that this is not the case. It may also be confusing that this is not a Carbonas record since Greg, Jesse, and Chris play on the record, Dave mastered it, and Clay's fictional (for now) biography is pictured on the jacket. You should believe with perfect certainty, however, that the songwriting on GG King's debut single doesn't stray far from the stylistics employed by his previous outfit for the most part of the last decade.

Human Eye - Fragments of the Universe Nurse [2008]
from VICTIM of TIME:
With the triumphant release of their second full-length album on Hook or Crook Records this month, Detroit's Human Eye have re-emerged as one of the world's last real examples of avant garde punk music, and retain their status as the yardstick by which all real rock'n'roll weirdness should be measured. As far back as 2004, these oblique creatures of the darkest, most unlit spaces in the universe have carved out their very own caveman-cum-alien formula of sickening science fiction sounds...

Billy Bao - Dialectics of Shit [2008]
from DUSTED REVIEWS:
Billy Bao hit all the bases that Pissed Jeans do, but the difference is that Mattin isn’t joking. Like sonic brethren Brainbombs, he actually has the courage of punk convictions, even if the Bao alias turns out to be a hedge. I’m a Pissed Jeans fan, but if the lyrics of “My Life Is Shit” (My life is shit, / your life is shit / and you don’t do / anything / Just / drink / fuck / sleep / and get killed / by a system / that only wants you as a / working corpse) were theirs, I probably wouldn’t be able to shake the feeling that they got a beer after recording the track. Bao keeps the straightjacket drums and dirty fuzz riffs, but recognize that the child listening on the cover deserves better. I’m not fully convinced that the Vulpess or Minor Threat tack isn’t the more honest or effective one, but Dialectics of Shit is to be applauded for putting the ball firmly in the listener’s court.

NERVE CITY. Discography
from VICTIM OF TIME:
Nerve City already have the rare ability to crawl under your skin with their gloomy yet humanizing songs that echo with the cold jangly chills of death's imminent arrival, and it's never felt so good. Like the soundtrack to watching a funeral parade slowly drive by, Nerve City nail their simplistic songs with the grace of a black angel falling from the sky, yet never come off as contrived. Sharing a sound and execution similar to their friends/cohorts Medication from Connecticut, Nerve City channel an indescribable eeriness that devolves and reemerges with each stirring song, creating such an atmosphere of sonic paralysis that is nothing short of hypnotic.

Earthmen and Strangers - S/T [2009]
from EXAMINER.com:
"The songs enter cosmic, love-burned terrain, reaching for the stars lyrically and sonically. Softer and more free-form than the hard-edged Tokyo Electron, Earthmen and Strangers isn't afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve, as with the heartbroken "Deceitful Lines" and the yearning "Turn the Page." It's still rock 'n' roll, mind you -- the band's rhythm section drives straight ahead like a truck on a desert back road -- but there's a psychedelic sense of grandness and wonder in the record's grooves, as in songs like "Naked to the Stars" and the epic "Desert Snow."

The Shivvers - Lost Hits From Milwaukee's First Family of Powerpop: 1979-1982 [2006]
from HYPED to DEATH:
Simply put, the Shivvers may be the best female-fronted powerpop band the world has seen. It’s just that the world wasn’t exactly looking their way back in 1980... They had chops, talent, originality, looks— and if they’d been based in New York or L.A. the Shivvers would either have changed the course of music in the ’80s, or they’d have gloriously crashed and burned in a world-class blaze of hype.

Bobby Ubangi - Another Girl Like You 7'' & Inside the Mind of Bobby Ubangi [2009]
from DOUCHEMASTER:
"Bobby Ubangi is the epitome of fundamental rock n' roll. Active ingredients on this one include: house, four track, instruments that touring bands accidentally left at previously mentioned house, and friends with rudimentary playing skills that like to hang out at previously mentioned house. Short and simple has been Bobby's style for years, and he's sticking to his guns. D~M~R is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Mr. Ubangi, as he has been an absolute inspiration to us and the Atlanta music scene. We love you, Bobby!"

from ROB's HOUSE RECORDS:
Atlanta's champion craftsman of the three-chord garage sing-a-longs goes by the name of bobby ubangi and this record is a rare trip inside the same mind that brought you the lids and the gaye blades. recorded on 4 track, the most humblest of DIY methods, the tracks range from lo fi rockers to sappy garage tear jerkers but with guest appearances by old king cole younger (black lips), jared swilley (black lips), king khan, gentleman jesse, and many others 'inside the mind of' is anything but simple. the LPs 12 track pack a punch and attest to the wonders an able song writer can do with just three simple chords!

Demon's Claws - Weird Ways 7'' [2009]
from ROB's HOUSE RECORDS:
"Weird Ways" is a Jeff Clark song, and is actually a quite beautiful country crooner with piano about the wiles of the fairer sex, of course. Makes me think of 'The Last Waltz' for some reason. Wait...are Demon's Claws the modern equivalent of The Band? Kinda makes sense. "9000 Feets" is a Pat B. compostion, and has more confident and heavyfooted rock in its sound but still lies firmly in the prairie overall. Really intimate feel brings these tracks home with that little extra something that makes me like this quite a bit more than the past few singles...

Customers - Howling At The Moon 7'' (2009)
from STILL SINGLE:
"There is a sticker on the sleeve that says “features members of Beat Beat Beat, The Carbonas, and the Heart Attacks.” Do I really need to add anything else or does the sticker have it covered? It’s a perfect blend of the first two bands, and they left the Ron Wood hair fanfiction of The Heart Attacks out. Vocalist Stephen has a touch of Frankie Stubbs’ gravel in the voice, which helps keep them out of the pop-punk territory that modern garage has made some moves on. If you like this sort of thing, Customers’ debut gives out three big anthems with strong melodies that nail the sweet spot. Just don’t rush the LP, dudes."(http://www.robshouserecords.com)

Gun Outfit - Dim Light [2009]
from DUSTED REVIEWS:
Gun Outfit sets a course straight through college-rock country, hitting every major signpost on the way from Sonic Youth to the Magnetic Fields to the Silver Jews. It makes a whole lot of sense; the Olympia-based group already has a working lo-fi model in K Records’ sizable cohort through the years. Dim Light, their first full-length, is a little bit of everything, as many parts Sebadoh as Dinosaur Jr., riffing off of Daydream Nation and Jamboree equally...

The Spits - Vol.4 aka Schools Out (2009)

"A quote that proves to be eerily prescient with the long awaited return of professional weirdos, The SPITS. Fresh from the studio with their fourth self-titled LP on Thriftstore/Recess Records, The SPITS show no sign of slowing down with their latest effort, mixing equal parts Devo and Misfits into an aurally addictive, synth-inflected stew.
