Faux Départ - Démo CS (2016)

Killer garage punk riffage mixed with pop sensibility that equally brings to mind both popish side of early british punk rock, moody vibe of Wipers and some classic french sound unlike Camera Silens.

One of those demos so fully realized it doesn't sound like a demo at all. So good it deserves a proper vinyl treatment!

For fans of: Wipers, Wire, Cock Sparrer, The Briefs, The Aggravation,  Clorox Girls etc.

Buy the tape here.

V/A "Richmond Burning Compilation" CS (2014)

Cassette-only mixtape of newer bands from Richmond, Virginia, compiled by Feel It! Records. Features tracks from Slugz, Animal Planet, the Nervous Ticks, Diamond Hairbrush, Omega Boys, Christi, Asylum, Atrocious Kontrol, Cretins, Barge and two songs from the aborted Southside Stranglers LP session. This is pretty intense selection of some of the most exciting hardcore and garage punk bands from Richmond even thought I must admit, at first I only tracked this one for unreleased Southside Stranglers stuff. Was worth it!

Modern Delusion - Days Of Us 12'' [2015]

After two releases on Doomtown Records, Wasteland tape and split 7" with Chresus Jist, this synth-oriented, gloomy post punk trio managed to craft twelve memorable songs for their highly anticipated debut LP.

"Days of Us" captures bleak atmosphere and isolation caused by living in the big city on some shitty part of the world and the 4-track lo-fi production doesn't hurt either. Wide range of influences come from some classic synth punk sounds like Devo, The Screamers or Units and there's definitely some obvious influence from Yugoslavian post-punk/new wave scene and bands such as Paraf and some contemporary stuff not unlike Jay Reatard's Lost Sounds. But this is not straight up death rock, post-punk or goth revival band, Modern Delusion build up their own trademark sound with strong melancholic touch and vocals soaked in reverb backed up with punk attitude and primitive raw sound.

Silkscreened sleeves come in two different colors; red and grey. Artwork by Dirt Sleeze.

Buy this LP here.

Also, there's a new band called The Celetoids featuring 2/3 of Modern Delusion plus drummer from Chresus Jist. The trio plays a frantic, nervous and rabid kind of furious punk rock inspired by the first wave of British punk and obscure KBD gems, even outsider punk weirdos like Rudimentary Peni.

The Celetoids debut tape called Pupal Stage is released by Doomtown a few days ago along with the new Generacion Suicida tapes and Cal And The Calories tapes (this one is on Doomtown's sublabel Outsider Tapes). Get the new tapes here. Stream new DT releases here.

Cheena - All The Cheena Money Can Buy CS [2014]

Highly original, Nuke York weirdo punk dropped this demo sometime at the end of the last year. The first song on this demo starts off as a kind of garage-y, bluesy and southern rock take on The Cramps and The Gun Club sound and I hear some Fun House-era Stooges influence as well . The second tracks The Mask and Goo follow the sound in the same tradition and then when the Dirty Boy hits the groove this is when it gets really weird cause this is some cow-punk influenced instrumental jam. Midnight And More really reminds me of Bobby Soxx and Stick Men With Ray Guns and the last song Twister is a galloping cow-punk stomper. I must mention that Walker from Crazy Spirit sings here and the Cheena personnel is also comprised of members from Hank Wood & The Hammerheads, Dawn of Humans, Anasazi and Margaret aka Pharmakon.

Beside this demo Cheena also recorded three songs for a 7" that is out on Sacred Bones and you can get it here. People from Europe can buy Cheena 7" here.

Divided Minds - Strangers 7" [2014]

Many of you know that I'm involved in Doomtown Records. We put out a bunch of new releases in the last 12 months and I haven't had a time to post 'em here but eventually I will do that. This blog was kinda on hiatus cause I was sick of writing for some long time and other people just quit. As you see, recently, I started to post on the regularly basis and I hope this will not change for a period of some longer time. One of the few releases I put out this year is debut vinyl release from the frantic Zagreb city punk trio Divided Minds. This little fucker delivers four memorable mid-tempo songs of highly energetic and nervous herky-jerky punk rock, sounding like a cross of traditional 77 KBD punk and early 80's melodic hardcore played by the Zero Boys and most Rikk Agnew's bands. The "Strangers" EP is all about good ol' punk riffs, played with passion and blended with perfectly fitting snotty vocals, so if you dig old fashioned punk rock with a modern touch, you definitely need this piece of wax.

Some other opinions on this 7":

"Darkly tuneful punk by this Croatian three piece. There's a little bit of a west coast whiff to the overall sound although a song like "Invitation" sounds almost like a punked-up Warsaw (Joy Division's original name) track. Not gloom 'n doom by any stretch--there's a kick to the songs, especially the closing "Burning Hell." written by Al Quint (Suburban Voice)

"Yeah, Divided Minds plays straightforward post-punk with more of an emphasis on the punk that the post. Sometimes, it feels like the band is playing a little to fast for their skill level, in a way where it feels like everything might fall apart, but that adds to the charm of the whole record. Anyway, it has a dark, but not gloomy sound and sticks to a punchy 16th note-driven attack, not unlike a lower tier Marked Men offshot. It's good. I would go see them in a Decrepit squat." written by Greg Harvester (Maximum Rocknroll #377)

Buy the 7" from Doomtown webstore here. The band also repressed their demo tape for their 3rd european tour with Black Gust and there are very few copies left and added to the store as well as some last copies of Black Gust 7inches.

If you're living in the USA it might be easier for you to order this one from Sorry State Records or Dirt Cult Records.

Doomtown Records is also a distro, see the goodies in stock on this blog or just go over to our bigcartel store.  Also, you can purchase our stuff via our discogs store. As for the other Doomtown releases we put out, you can check them out on our bandcamp page. Also, there's plenty of new releases on horizon. More info on that soon.

Divided Minds - Demo CS [2013]

Ok, some of you are familiar with the fact that some of us are involved in Doomtown Records. This is one of four new releases we put out in the last 2 months aka; Debut six song tape from this reckless & relatively new punk trio which sounds like cross between 80's melodic hardcore punk mixed with sloppy & raw garage-y punk feel. Think somewhere along the spectrum of sounds situated between Zero Boys and Adolescents with Angry Samoans alike vocal. The band just got back from their european tour with their buddies Black Gust and brought this babies to our headquarters.

For fans of: The Observers, Carbonas, Predator, The Daily Void, Angry Samoans...

Free download (feel free to donate us money cause we are pretty broke all the time.) / Preview on Doomtown Records Bandcamp Page: http://doomtownrecords.bandcamp.com/album/divided-minds-demo-cs

Titan Blood - Too Much Talk 7" [2011]

Another awesome piece of texas punk vinyl and this one is in Killed by Death style of garage punk with some hooks that remind me of early UK punk. And yeah, piano chords are thrown into some gems too and they do add some weird rhytm & blues vibe to the sound! Cool stuff, indeed! I think members are \ were also involved in Black Congress and Weird Party. Not sure thought!

Out on TB Collective.

The Energy - The Energy's First Album [2010]

Houston's The Energy share members with No Talk, The Secret Prostitutes, Bloody Hammer, Black Congress and a bunch of other talented bands from all over Texas. The new Autistic Youth record and this one are probably my fav full-lengths of the year 2010.

The Energy are quite unique at what they do and they are everything but yet another generic and predictable rocknroll band. First, most of the songs on The Energy's First Record are over four and a half minutes long and Stabbing In The Dark goes on for more than eight minutes. The songs structures are repetitive but always fueled with sonic & riff-heavy garage punk rock parts which are written intelligently, and I'm not saying that in a pretentious way. Repetitive riffs are always accompanied with background noise & feedback, killer solos and melodies which reflect the psychedelic side of the 60's and 70's garage rock, and you can even hear some glam rock influences (Girls Don't Like Me At All).

The effects of strange and weird are the main thing that makes The Energy great and that factor is provided by Bates' (he calls himself Wicked Poseur) vocals, which are flat and repetitive (don't give a shit vocals?) and accompanied by lyrics that sound like they were copied from the diary of a serial killer. The Energy's First Record has this drugged up psychedelic vibe. It's like lurking into someone elses bad trip, but to you, his worst nightmares are a whole lotta fun. But you must be careful, 'cause The Energy's First Record is a so convincingly dangerous & dark piece of punk rock it might make you go ape crazy, unleash the evil in your paranoid mind, make you wanna stab your neighbour in the dark, chop his legs off and store them in your fridge for a couple of days. Or at least Wicked Poseur wants you to think about doing stuff like that while listening to his loser punk group.

This is released via Team Science. 3rd press is out right now so go get  it here.

Matt K. Shrugg - Gone Ashtray [2010]

Hi all! It's been a while since something new was posted here. Sorry for that. College sucks. Anyway, here's some great music I've been listening through this long, traumatic period.

This is an awesome record by Matt K. Shrugg. His first solo full length, released on TIC TAC TOTALLY RECORDS. Before his solo stuff he played in THE PIZZAS and ZODIAC KILLERS, which are both awesome bands and I'ill probably post some of their music, too. Enjoy!

Out on cassette, too, by SOUTHPAW RECORDS.

You can buy the album HERE and HERE.

Mess Folk - This is Mess Folk CS [2009]

I am really late with posting this because I had trouble with ripping the tape on my stereo and it sounds pretty harsh but here it finally is. Mess Folk are a Sydney Nova Scotia, Canada based band and they play weird, vile, noisy and messed up psychedelic garage punk. Brilliant garage punk that is. The sound is really raw [and my shitty stereo didn't help it either] but the songs are so awesome that it doesn't really matter. I love how sinister it sounds and there's a bunch of tracks that are catchy as hell. The tape was released on SCOTCH TAPE RECORDS and three of the songs from the album were released as a 7'' on HOZAC RECORDS.

The album will be re-released as an LP later this year on BACHELOR RECORDS with 10 additional unreleased songs.

BUY the tape from HERE and the 7'' from HERE.

Clorox Girls - Clorox Girls [2004]

My favorite release by CLOROX GIRLS. Out in 2004 on SMARTGUY RECORDS this is one of the best garage punk releases of the new millennium. Missing their show with THE FEELERS in 2007 in ZAGREB and traveling to see SHELLAC play a show in VERONA, ITALY was possibly the biggest mistake of my life. :D

Buy it from HERE.

Functional Blackouts - The Very Best of the Monkees [2007]

These Chicago punks delivered some loud, noisy, treble heavy and filthy guitar nihilism. The band broke up in 2006 and later went on to form incredible Daily Void with a new drummer. This compilation compiles eighteen tracks from their earliest recordings to their final outputs; singles and compilation appearances, cuts from their splits with Fashion Fashion and The Image Boys as well as the songs from the split with the KK Rampage as well as three unreleased tracks. This is one of the most brilliant bands i have heard in a long time. Functional Blackouts have never lacked any creativity and noise assaults so you should worship their records and trash everything that stands in your way while you're into their nihilistic and barbaric vibe.

Out on Dead Beat. Go get it there.
